Get a grip on your meat carving

Gripper Carving Board

Slippery succulence is no fun for anyone, so it’s best to get a grip. No matter how enthusiastic the roast may be on escaping, the Gripper Carving Board is ready to step in and give you a hand. Featuring a spiked metal ring integrated into the center, the cutting board holds hard-to-grip goods in place whilst under the knife. Inset grooves channel juices away, providing not only the benefits of an easy-to-use workspace, but also one that stays tidy during the dirty work.

Colander rethink is deep

Cylinder Colander

Kitchen gadgets and gizmos come and go, but there a few that are present in every kitchen and never get a second thought. The colander is a good example of this. After all, it’s basically just a big ol’ stainless steel bowl with holes in it. But for draining pasta and cleaning veggies it can’t be beat. However, be that as it may, sometimes the darn thing is just the wrong shape. Draining pasta is one thing, but when it comes time to scrub leafy greens, more often than not, some escape over the side. As ubiquitous as colanders are, this minor inconvenience rarely gets a second thought. Unless you’re thinking deep.

Slicing (garlic) without jail time

Garlic Slicer

You know that scene in Goodfellas when they are in jail? And whatshisname is slicing garlic so thin that it melts in your mouth? That has always appealed to me. (The garlic, not the jail time.) While I may have picked up a few cooking tips from Martin Scorsese films, generally I still crush garlic. There may be a ton of garlic crushers or mincers out on the market, but I still usually prefer to simply whack it with a knife. (The broadside of a knife, that is.)

For those that desire thinly sliced garlic without doing time, the Garlic Slicer may be the answer. Made of 18/10 stainless-steel, the handheld gadget delivers three uniform slices of garlic with a simple twist of the wrist. It holds up to two cloves at a time, and the remainder can simply be stored in the fridge for later use… with no need to bribe anyone in order to go on a garlic run.

***UPDATE 1/11/13*** The link above no longer works, so check out the new one below, but beware: unlike Goodfellas, the reviews aren’t so hot!

Finally, a chance for Bread People to lead a normal life

Swissmar Bamboo Crumb Catching Board w/Bread Knife

It goes without saying that Bread People eat a lot of bread. Which also goes to say, they have a lot of crumbs in their homes. As all this bread-eating usually outpaces bread-cleaning, all those crumbs pile up. Just like you don’t clean the crumb tray out of your toaster after every use, Bread People don’t clean away the crumbs after slicing into a loaf; it’s just going to get all crumby again at the next meal. I know all this, because I am a Bread Person.
