Refrigerator Magnet Promises To Be Next Big Thing

Sometime next year (and hopefully not on April 1st), we will see a true revolution in refrigerator technology. Water and ice dispensers are one thing, but one that pours forth nacho cheese? Instant winner for Best Technology Of The Year.

The roots will be traced back and it will be realized that all credit for the idea belongs to Archie McPhee for their representation of a quality refrigerator door with this Refrigerator Upgrade Magnet. Of course, sooner or later some other company will improve upon the model and add chicken wings and frozen yogurt just like on the magnet. Of course regardless of the source of inspiration, a trick like getting your fridge to dispense french fries and chicken wings deserves all the accolades it gets.

It’s A Zoo In There (The Fridge, That Is)

fridgezoo

Fridgeezoo gives a voice to all the critters of the icebox by howling and screaming if the refrigerator door gets held open too long. The gadgets are shaped like little milk cartons dressed up as various cold-climate creatures such as a polar bear, a penguin, a seal or a walrus. Of course, since these Japanese gadgets are probably light-activated, you can save even more energy just by unscrewing the refrigerator light.

Herbs stand up to be counted

Cuisipro Herb Keeper

Buying fresh herbs can get expensive rather quickly, but when it comes to freshness of flavor, there really is no compromise. Growing your own herbs is a great way to maximize savings, but if you lack a green thumb (or don’t lack overzealous cats), getting the little sproutlings to grow up nice and tasty can be a difficulty. Any way you harvest your herbs (at the store or in the garden), you are going to need a way to store them.

Square eggs stack smart

Square Egg Press and Egg Saver available at Chef Gadget

They say you are not supposed to store eggs in the refrigerator door. While those little egg-shaped depressions may look tempting, apparently the temperature fluctuates too wildly in those parts. However, don’t worry about a refrigerator that does not maintain a safe temperature, because, thankfully, there is a workaround concerning the storage of eggs. The Square Egg Press and Egg Saver turns those hard-to-manage oblong (hard-boiled) eggs into convenient and stackable squares. Just don’t forget about them in the back of the fridge.

Light-activated Recording Can Fridge Guard confirms the refrigerator light really does turn off

Recording Can Fridge Guard

The Recording Can Fridge Guard is an inconspicuous looking device capable of answering an age-old question: Does the refrigerator light really turn off when the door is closed? Simply record a message and stick it in the fridge. It is cleverly camouflaged as a cola can, so any fridge gnomes (I suspect) will not be distracted as they go about their light-turning-off duties. When the door is opened, and light hits the can, your message will play. Pretty simple stuff; if you don’t hear the can talking to itself when the door is closed, well then, the light is indeed off.

Of course, you could use the can to leave recorded shopping reminders or encouraging words for a dieter, but where’s the fun in that? I can’t think of any better way to make sure the light goes off other than opening and closing the door really, really fast.

Hold Ups Wine Rack helps to keep wine in line

Hold Ups Refrigerator Wine Rack

Constantly struggling to find room in your fridge for wine bottles? If your fridge is anything like mine, most of the shelves are not tall enough, and the ones in the door are usually filled up. Wine bottles end up on their side, inevitably rolling around inconsiderately knocking every thing else out of the way. I prefer to give my wine its own space for a more harmonious inner fridge.

Wine bottles need space and Hold Ups Refrigerator Wine Rack can provide it. Slide the gizmo through the wire shelves in your fridge and twist to install. Suddenly, the contents of your refrigerator are transformed from an unruly mob into upright model denizens (or horizontal, in this case).

***Update 10/16/24: The Hold Ups rack must’ve fallen down because it is no longer available. But now, here we have the Sorbus Fridge Wine Rack- Refrigerator Bottle Rack standing up to the task. Or laying down as the case may be.
