Boil Buoy Watches Pot For You

Boil Buoy

A watched pot never boils, but one that is listened to is another story. Normally, water doesn’t make too much noise while bubbling away, so how does a pot listened to give away its secrets? With Boil Buoy, of course.

The small stainless steel chime floats in a pot of water thanks to an enclosed foam core. When the water reaches a boil, the movement of the boiling water causes it to chime. A weighted bottom ensures the clever gadget floats upright. Currently on pre-sale, the Quirky project only needs about 1,500 purchase commitments to find its way into production. Looks like that old saying might be due for an update.

A Watched Pot Boils Eggs

Egg-Perfect Egg Timer

Offering a new way to ‘see’ the doneness of eggs while they are cooking, the Egg-Perfect Egg Timer represents cooking progress visually. When placed in a pot of cooking eggs, it absorbs heat and changes color as it ‘cooks’. Easy-to-follow markings alert you to when the eggs are done to your liking. From soft-boiled eggs to hard-boiled eggs, the little timer keeps track of the cooking for you—as long as you remember to watch the pot.

Beak Steeper: Penguin Tea Timer

Penguin Tea Timer

I never thought hot water and penguins mixed particularly well, but—at least when it comes to brewing tea—this particular penguin takes to it like a duck to water. Place a cup of hot water under the beak, attach either the included tea strainer or your favorite bagged tea, and set the timer. The bag lowers into the hot water, and automatically rises when the time is up.

Able to be set for up to twenty minutes, the Penguin Tea Timer can also be used as a traditional kitchen timer. Perhaps most important of all, as the product description states, “at $11.89, the price is not steep at all!”

No More Counting Toes In The Kitchen: Timer Keeps Track Of Four Things At Once

Taylor Tools Chef's Trust 4 Event Quad Timer

Most stovetops have four burners, yet for some reason the average kitchen timer can only count one thing at a time. That’s no way to count! It’s like not being able to use your fingers and toes when the need arises. Luckily, no longer is it required to go barefoot in the kitchen, because this timer keeps track of everything for you.

The Taylor Tools Chef’s Trust 4 Event Quad Timer features a simple-to-use uncluttered interface that tracks four separate events at once. Corner LEDs correspond to particular timers, and light up when the countdown is complete. Additional features include a memory recall, the ability to count up, and a foldout stand so you can set it down—just in case you still want to free up those fingers and toes.

Time’s Up For This Hamburger

60-Minute Hamburger Kitchen Timer

Not all hamburger dreams are delicious. Some are tainted, not with suspect meat, but with spinning and whirling parts that make more noise than they should. (Especially nightmarish considering that a hamburger shouldn’t make any noise.) However, once in a while, along comes a burger designed to chime its way into our hearts (without the cholesterol, that is).

Case in point: The 60-Minute Hamburger Short Ring Alarm Kitchen Timer. Measuring around 3-inches across, the charming kitchen gadget keeps track of time in one minute increments. And whether or not your hamburger dreams are pleasant and tasty or filled with mechanical burgers bent on revenge, with about a four second bell duration, this burger timer is a lot more pleasant than an alarm clock.

Perfect pasta with no repainting

The Perfect Pasta Timer from Hammacher Schlemmer

At some point, one gets tired of adorning the wall with strands of spaghetti. While there may be no better way to test the doneness of pasta known to man than to throw it against a wall to see if it sticks, there is at least a cleaner one. The Perfect Pasta Timer from Hammacher Schlemmer seeks to put an end to spaghetti-related repainting by providing an alternate means to measure the cooking time of pasta.

Pre-programmed with preferred cooking times for ten different pasta shapes, each with the option of al dente or regular, the timer makes it easy to get the results you want each and every time. As an added bonus, the timer is mounted on the end of a thermometer probe; no, not just to alert you when the water is hot enough to add pasta (a.k.a. rapidly boiling), but to give you something to grab onto while rooting around for it in a drawer.
