Marshawn, Marshawn, Marshawn!

Looks like the Darrell Bevell, the offensive coordinator for Seattle (for now…) could have used an in-game snack before making that play call. All he had to do was let Marshawn Lynch run the ball three times and the Seahawks would have won the Super Bowl. Oh well. Maybe next time Marshawn will share his Skittles.

Oh, It’s A Gas Station Hog Dog

Ketchup on a hot dog.

Somewhere in Arizona, there is a right field fence with a billboard advertising hot dogs. Normal enough, right? Hot dogs and baseball go quite well together. But this is a hot dog with ketchup on it. Now, baseball’s spring training is all about setting rosters and getting ready for the regular season, but I sure hope that hot dog doesn’t make the team.

If you’re watching spring training games on MLB Network, you’ll see it; talk about standing out like a sore thumb. A big ol’ hot dog with ketchup splashed on it. Eww. It’s as wrong as Barry Bonds.

The stadium billboard in right field advertises a brand I am unfamiliar with. QT, it said. Cryptic sounding. A QT hot dog. Was it real? Just what kind of hot dog purveyor would allow an advertisement of their product to have ketchup on it? Or catsup. Either way, hot dog aficionados would run the other way.

Further research was clearly necessary.

Oh, QT is QuickTrip. They are a gas station. That explains it. Perhaps it is more of a warning than an ad.

To be fair, QT supplies a toppings bar, so if you make your hot dog look like the one in their promos, you only have yourself to blame. But really, those guys need a new ad agency.

PS: Yes, I know some of you like ketchup on a hot dog. Sorry.
PPS: Not really. 😉

Hot dogs are famous for having the capability to be perfectly customized to suit individual tastes. Just think of all the add-ons they have: mustard, ketchup, sauerkraut, pickles, mayo, peppers, bacon, chili, more bacon, cheese, catsup, hot sauce, tomato, onion, relish… the list of hot dog toppings goes on and on. However, there is one aspect of the tubular treat that is often overlooked: the bun.

The Steemee Wonder, the multicooker with a lyrical name, is a quick and easy hot dog making contraption. Unlike other hot dog gadgets, this one has no bells and whistles, no fancy colors and works just like regular cookware. In the world of hot dogs, this would be the plain, no topping version. And that’s okay. Even if it is “As Seen On TV.”

The Steemee Wonder -- As Seen On TV

Despite the marketing, this seems pretty legit. Just look at that product title from Amazon:

NO CHEAP RED PLASTIC! 100% Stainless Steel FAST & Tasty! Steam up to 12 Perfect BallPark Hotdogs in 6 Minutes! “When You Gotta Have a Hot Dog Fast!………………….. “You Gotta Have a Steemee Wonder!” The Amazing Multi Cooker Steemee Wonder(tm) 100% Stainless Steel! BallPark Hot Dog Steamer That Can’t Be Topped! Totally Portable(Includes Carrying Bag)! Great for Home SuperBowl Parties/Tailgating! As Seen on TV!……ORDER NOW!

That’s a lot of words! The takeaway though is that it is basically a cooking pot with two steaming inserts and a lid. Boil the hot dogs, steam the buns, and you’re good to go. It’s hard to tell the quality of the stainless steel, but the concept is there.

Yes, you can achieve almost the same result by using a steamer insert with a properly sized cooking pot, but if you do not have said pot and insert, then this might be a solution. It’s a bit pricey of a solution (watch out for that shipping cost), but it is an all-in-one hot dog cooking solution nonetheless. Regardless, after having too many delicious hot dogs with perfectly steamed buns, you can steam up a nice pot of healthy veggies!

Ho! Ho! Hot! Sriracha Candy Canes!

Sriracha Candy Canes

Somehow, all of the television commercial-makers, store display-makers and aisle filler-uppers decided that it was time for Christmas. It came down upon us suddenly and the now-ubiquitous red and green holiday decor is everywhere.

Coincidentally, Sriracha is now everywhere too.

It was only a matter of time, but now we have Sriracha Candy Canes. The real question is how it took so long for this to happen. With even Subway getting in on the Sriracha craze with their chicken or steak melt sandwiches, it’s a good bet there is more Sriracha-flavored craziness to come. Which of course is a good thing. The delicious and spicy condiment deserves all the taste buds it can get.

Rumor even has it that a certain long-time hot sauce maker that too has iconic bottles (hint: they use tabasco peppers) is planning a Sriracha style hotsauce. Ho! Ho! Hot!
